Good smartphones from Nokia, but the problem is Windows Phone, according to analysts
New newly released Nokia Lumia 800 and Nokia Lumia 710 have received positive feedback from various sources, but no immediate effect is expected in Nokia's smartphone market share. "I am confident they will help stabilise the situation", according to Carolina Milanesi, Research VP in Gartner's Mobile Devices, "more devices are needed for 2012 and a wider availability to significantly improve the market share". She believes that Nokia's Lumia smartphones will be able to compete with Android smartphones, since Android users are usually less loyal to the brand compared to iPhone users.
Nokia Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 "are great devices and the technical specifications are good", said Francisco Jeronimo, Research Manager of IDC EMEA, "but the problem is the OS, which has a low market share and it's not that well known". He was, however, surprised of the low €270 price of the Lumia 710. According to him, it will make it the cheapest Windows Phone smartphone with a 1.4 Ghz CPU. "Nokia is entering to these markets very aggressively, but Android and iPhone smartphones are better known. Therefore it will take time to increase the market share."
Interestingly, Francisco Jeronimo predicts that Nokia will benefit when HTC, LG and Samsung will release more smartphones with Windows Phone. He believes that it will increase consumer interest in Windows Phone ecosystem.
